Spot Removal Tips
Food and drink stains are part of busy everyday life, whether they’re a dribble or a disaster. You may wish to speak with a carpet cleaning professional but if you want to get to work straight away, here are a few of our tips and suggestions based on Chem-Dry’s 30 years of cleaning expertise. It helps if you’ve got some Chem-Dry professional home care products around clean up spots and stains as they happen – if your carpet’s been treated with Chem-Dry Protectant, then you already have a huge advantage in removing stains.
Stain Removal Tips
- Act quickly – the longer a stain remains, the more chance it has to set.
- Make sure you know what kind of stain you’re dealing with, as well as the type of fabric or surface you’re working on so you can choose the best product to treat it. Our list below shows you which product to use with water or oil based spots.
- Remove as much of the stain as you can by blotting, scraping or brushing first. Whatever happens, don’t rub it in. You’ll push the stain in further and could damage your carpet fibres.
- Test all fabrics and carpets before you clean them by spraying a small amount of Chem-Dry Professional Strength Spot Remover or Chem-Dry Grease and Oil Remover on a hidden area, blot it dry and keep an eye on it for ten minutes. Once you know that the carpet colour isn’t coming off on your cloth, or that there’s a mark on the carpet once it’s dried, you’re safe to use it on your carpet.
- Work from the outside edge of the stain in, to prevent it from spreading.
- Call Chem-Dry of Liverpool on 0800 980 7305 for expert spot and stain removal if your efforts aren’t working – the sooner you call us, the better.
- Ask a Chem-Dry professional to apply our ‘REPEL™’ Stain Protector with every clean, which gives you the best chance of removing stains.
